The late Princess of Wales was beloved by many royal fans during her marriage to Prince Charles. According to the 2017 Channel 4 documentary ‘The Royal House of Windsor’, Prince Charles felt overshadowed by Diana which was a reason he liked Camilla as she “was happy to remain in the shadows”.

Historian Dr Piers Brendon told the documentary: “Charles realised rapidly that [Diana] was doing this to upstage him and he resented it, having always himself in the past occupied the limelight.”

However, according to royal biographer Penny Junor, the Duchess of Cambridge has possibly learned an important lesson from Diana’s marriage to Charles.

She told The Sunday Times: “Charles was Prince of Wales and not used to having the limelight taken from him.

“That caused huge problems. Kate is being very careful to ensure she doesn’t outstrip William.

“She is not on an ego trip, and her head has not been turned by celebrity.”

Ms Junor added: “Kate is a working woman doing a job.

“She didn’t leave the human race when she joined Planet Windsor.”

The royal expert also compared the Duchess of Cambridge to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down with the US chat show host to discuss their experience as senior royals after stepping back from duties last year.

Ms Junor claimed that Kate is more “selfless” than the Sussexes.

She said: “When Harry and Meghan talked to Oprah, they were more concerned about their own welfare; it was all about them and that’s been their narrative all along.

“But there’s a difference between service and self-service.

“I feel real service is doing things selflessly for others. I think that’s what Kate understands.”
