The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken on a number of royal duties this month, after a summer spent at Balmoral and the Isle of Scilly. Last weekend William held the inaugural Earthshot Prize ceremony, where he called on society to “unite in repairing the planet”.  The award, created by the Duke, gives prizes to people offering the most inspiring solutions to the environmental challenges facing the planet, with five winners receiving £1 million to develop their projects.

This month, Kate also took on a number of royal duties, including voicing her support for a University College London study in early years development.

The Duchess established the Royal Foundation Centre of Early Childhood in June this year, after working 10 years to highlight the importance of a child’s formative education.

William and Kate are among the most popular members of the Royal Family, and are considered crucial in keeping the Firm relevant to younger generations.

However in an unearthed 2019 video, Kate appeared to shrug off her husband William’s affectionate hand.

The royal couple made an appearance on a BBC Christmas program ‘A Berry Royal Christmas’, hosted by Mary Berry.

During the programme as William tried placing his hand on Kate’s shoulder, his wife seemed to shrug him off.

While some royal watchers on social media interpreted the moment as a tickle, body language expert Blanca Cobb claimed to Cosmopolitan in 2019: “I don’t think it was a tickle.

“Think about when somebody bumps into you ‒ you’ll pull back and turn your body to have some space.

“You don’t know it’s coming.

“So it can be a reflex or it can be that she didn’t want his hand on her at that moment, so she twisted away from him and her shoulder went with the rest of her body.”

Ms Cobb added: “The way she moved her shoulder, it was obvious she wanted it to come off.”

The expert stressed that Kate’s movement may have been a reflex, rather than a rejection of William’s intimacy.

She added: “It could have been that one, she didn’t want his hands on her so she moved her shoulder to get his hand away, or it could have been a surprise.

“Maybe she was deep in conversation with the lady sitting across from her and didn’t realize he was doing it.

“Sometimes, when someone leans on you or touches you, you will move.

“It’s a reflex ‒ it truly is a reflex.”

Today, the Cambridges released three behind-the-scenes pictures taken at the weekend’s Earthshot Prize ceremony.

The photos, taken by photographer Chris Jackson, provided a glimpse into the tenderness and intimacy of the couple’s relationship.

One picture shows Kate placing an arm around her husband’s waist, who in turn leaning closer to the Duchess as they speak.

Another depicts Kate and William leaning against one another as they walk through the Alexandra Palace curtains.

Upon the pictures being released, Mr Jackson expressed how “grateful” he was to be able to document these awards.

He tweeted: “Grateful for the opportunity to document some of the energy and passion that went into this groundbreaking event that will change the climate change narrative for the foreseeable future.”
