Kate will visit RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire on Wednesday to meet some of the military personnel and civilians who took place in Operation PITTING. This operation ran between August 14 and 28 and saw the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan after the Taliban seized back power in the country.

While at the base, Kate will meet people who have been directly involved in the largest humanitarian aid operation run over the past seven decades.

Among them, there will be RAF aircrew and medics who helped people at Kabul airport.

The Duchess will also speak to civilians and volunteers who established a repatriation centre at the RAF base in Oxfordshire and continued to provide support and supplies to those fleeing Afghanistan.

The US-led operation to evacuate people by air ended on August 31.

More than 123,000 civilians were evacuated by Western forces.

The Ministry of Defence said at the end of last month it had flown out of the country more than 15,000 people – including more than 8,000 Afghans.

This latest exodus from the country comes on top of the 2.2 million Afghans refugees who had already escaped to neighbouring countries over the years.

Moreover, some 3.5 million people have been forced to flee their homes but have remained within the borders of Afghanistan.

Royal fans welcomed Kensington Palace’s latest announcement on Kate’s return.

One wrote on Twitter: “Yaay very important cause to be her first engagement since her summer break started.”

Another said: “Well done Catherine.”

And a third added: “Guess who’s back y’all!!!! Yes! Duchess of Cambridge”.
