Royal author Angela Levin praised the Duchess of Cambridge for being a “positive influence”. Kate chatted to Harry as the royals left the funeral at St George’s Chapel on Saturday before subtly moving away after they were joined by Prince William to give the brothers time alone.

Writing in the Telegraph, Ms Levin described Kate as “impressive”.

She said: “Stepping forward to talk to Prince Harry and you could tell by her soft movements that rather than get revenge for the criticism his wife Meghan Markle had aimed at her during Oprah Winfrey’s bombshell conversation, she was trying to break the ice.

“As William joined them and Catherine quietly stepped down off the pavement to give the brothers space to chat, she then quite naturally stepped back to talk to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, occasionally taking a glance at the two men.”

Ms Levin added: “It might not lead anywhere but at least it was a start.”

William and Harry’s rift has been well documented.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral was the first time the once-close brothers have been seen in public together since Megxit.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a series of damaging claims about the royals in their TV interview, which aired last month.

Meghan claimed Kate made her cry ahead of her royal wedding in 2018 – after previous reports suggested it was the other way round.

And Harry laid bare his rifts with his father Prince Charles and older brother.

He even claimed the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were trapped in the monarchy.

The Sussexes also accused an unnamed royal – not the Queen or Philip – of questioning what colour their son Archie’s skin would be before he was born.

The tell-all interview plunged the Royal Family into a fresh crisis a year after Megxit.

But the royals made clear they did not agree with all of Meghan and Harry’s claims, saying that “some recollections may vary”.

And William angrily denied accusations the family was racist in a rare outburst during a royal engagement.

Hopes have been raised that Harry and William could mend their rift after the brothers were spotted chatting after their grandfather’s funeral.

Pregnant Meghan remained in California after being advised not to fly.

William and Harry are due to reunite again in July for the unveiling of a statue to their late mother Princess Diana.
