The Princess of Wales’s outfit for Monday’s Commonwealth Day service could be a subtle swipe at sister-in-law Meghan Markle as one particular designer is said to have caused “tensions'” between the pair. For the appearance, Kate opted for a trendy floral jacket and matching skirt from one of her favourite designers, Erdem Moralioglu.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that Meghan and Kate were both fans of Erdem’s designs.

The Telegraph previously reported that Kate was prioritised over the Duchess of Sussex by Erdem, despite Meghan falling in love with his clothing during her acting career.

Although she donned the London-based designer’s clothes before entering royal life, Kate was said to have been given precedence over her sister-in-law.

It reportedly didn’t go down well with the Sussexes after Kate was handed the latest designs, with Meghan said to have fumed that Kate “wasn’t even Queen”.

Meghan didn’t publicly wear the designer until March 2019, almost a year after she officially joined the Royal Family.

The former actress wore a custom-made green coat dress for the royal engagement.

Prior to meeting Harry, the Duchess of Sussex wore a dress from his 2015 collection in early 2016.

Kate has long favoured the designer, wearing a mid-calf-fit-and-flare design in 2018 from Erdem’s SS18 collection.

Erdem’s designs are known for their fearless approach to patterns, leading to some critique.

Some have referred to his designs as “chintzy”.

The Princess of Wales appeared in high spirits, alongside Prince William, at Monday’s service.

To go along with her stylish navy outfit, Kate donned a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings that previously belonged to William’s late mother, Princess Diana. The 41-year-old also showcased an elegant brooch, gifted to her by the King.
