The King is furious at his youngest son for the criticism he levelled at Camilla, the Queen Consort in his autobiography Spare, according to a source close to the monarch. Prince Harry made a series of revelations, claiming he and the Prince of Wales had pleaded with their father not to marry her. The Duke of Sussex also alleged that Camilla was a “dangerous” addition to the Firm as she needed to improve her public image following the backlash their extramarital relationship attracted.

The royal insider claimed: “He’s angry and outraged that Harry’s aired so many embarrassing and damaging assertions and it’s put him in a terrible position with Camilla, of course, now she’s been dragged into the equation.

“That’s really crossed the line in more ways than one but there are so many egregious comments and revelations from Harry that his father doesn’t know where to start.”

Speaking to US Weekly, they added: “He has hope that in time the dust will settle and Harry will soften his heart toward his family, at least he hopes so.

“But he’s not going to push or apologise.”

Royal author Christopher Andersen noted the King is particularly touchy when criticism is levelled at Camilla, and suggested Harry’s latest comments could have cost him his invite to the coronation in May.

Mr Andersen said: “Charles is very defensive when it comes to Camilla and, therefore, anything negative about Camilla he’s not going to take well at all.

“We’ll just have to see what he does. I was convinced that Harry and Meghan would be at the coronation, but now I’ve not so convinced he’ll even be asked.”

The Duke of Sussex said he considered his stepmother “dangerous” and claimed he and Prince William joined forces to push His Majesty not to marry her.

He wrote: “When the question came, Willy and I promised our father that we would welcome Camilla to the family.

“The only thing we asked for in return was that he didn’t marry her. ‘You don’t need to get married again,’ we asked him.”

Harry expanded on his claims that royal aides regularly “trade” stories with members of the press to improve the image of their employers, adding Camilla to the list of royals he alleged to be involved in the practice.

The Duke wrote: “She was the villain, she was a third person in the marriage, she needed to rehabilitate her image.

“The need for her to rehabilitate her image…that made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.

“And there was open willingness on both sides to trade information and with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being Queen Consort, there was going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”

He added: “If you are led to believe, as a member of the family, that being on the front page, having positive headlines, positive stories written about you is going to improve your reputation or increase the chances of you being accepted as monarch by the British public, then that’s what you’re gonna do.”

Buckingham Palace has so far refused to issue any comment on the allegations Prince Harry made in his memoir or on his promotional interviews tour.
