Mr Corbyn has often been criticised for his unclear Brexit message and that has been reflected in a latest poll commissioned by Times Higher Education (THE). According to the survey conducted by YouthSight which was published in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Corbyn has lost the support of students in what is a critical blow to his election hopes.
According to the survey conducted by YouthSight which was published in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Corbyn has lost the support of students in what is a critical blow to his election hopes.
The student vote, represented a huge part of his support but the new poll shows that among UK students, he has lost almost half, going from 70 percent to just 38.
The data represents the lowest point for the party in terms of the student vote in the last four years.
In the wake of Labour’s faltering support, the Liberal Democrats have gathered momentum and have seen an increase of 19 percent among students according to the survey.
For much of the last decade, that number had been hovering around five percent according to the pollsters while the party had also been hit hard over the tuition fee controversy.
However, Sir John Curtice, professor of politics at the University of Strathclyde issued a word of warning for the Liberal Democrats.
Sir John insisted that although their number had risen, they had solely been poaching Remain voters and had not yet gained any Leave campaign supporters.
He told THE: “The Liberal Democrat revival is mostly based on Remain voters; they have hardly picked up a single Leave voter during the course of this year.
“What isn’t clear is that the Liberal Democrats have gained ground among young people in particular.
“They have probably been disproportionately picking up the older Remain vote rather than the younger Remain vote.”
