Lady Kitty Spencer, 30, married South African businessman Michael Lewis, 62, in an opulent ceremony that defied recent trends for more laid back, low key weddings that have in part been spurred due to the coronavirus pandemic, instead leaving no stone unturned for the celebrations.

The happy couple tied the knot at Villa Aldo Brandini in Frascati, on the outskirts of Rome, on Saturday, after becoming engaged in early 2020.

Kitty is the eldest child of Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer and his first wife, Victoria Aitken.

Her first cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry, are not thought to have been in attendance at the destination wedding.

The groom is a wealthy father-of-three who is more than twice the age of the bride.

Mr Lewis is chairman of the Foschini Group, a South African retail group.

The pair exchanged their vows in front of celebrity guests that included singer Pixie Lott, Made in Chelsea’s Mark Vandelli and Idris Elba’s wife Sabrina.

Lady Kitty’s twin sisters Eliza and Amelia also flew out for their sibling’s big day alongside Viscountess Emma Weymouth and her husband Ceawlin Thynn.

The newlyweds began their celebrations on Friday night with a dinner party at the exclusive Galleria Del Cardinale restaurant in Rome, surrounded by their aristocratic guests, before enjoying a sunset wedding on Saturday evening.

Images released by Dolce and Gabbana, designers of the dress, show the bride in an all-out dress to rival her aunt, Princess Diana, with inspiration taken from her own mother’s dress and Grace Kelly’s famous wedding dress.

The dress features a Victorian-style high neckline with an intricate sheer lace bodice, structured puff shoulders and a full crinoline skirt.

The bride wore a dramatic train which echoed her aunt’s record-breaking 25ft train.

The bride also wore a sweeping silk tulle veil that extended beyond the train of the wedding gown and was edged in white lace similar to that seen on the dress.

According to a behind-the-scenes video posted on the Dolce & Gabbana Instagram, the Italian house created a number of hand-made Alta Moda gowns for the occasion.

The 30-year-old is a professional model who made her catwalk debut for Dolce & Gabbana in 2017 and is an ambassador for the brand, so it’s no surprise she chose them to design the most important dress of her life.

However, the bride opted not to wear the Spencer tiara, donned by Princess Diana on her wedding day and numerous other occasions, as well as by Kitty’s mother and her other two aunts on their wedding days.

The bride was also reportedly not walked down the aisle by her father, Charles Spencer, thought to be due to a shoulder injury that is affecting his movement.

Instead, Kitty was given away by two of her brothers, Louis and Sam.

It is currently unknown if the bride’s father was able to attend the ceremony at all, as his Twitter activity suggested he was still at Althorp Estate over the weekend.
