A number of roads have been closed to help investigating officers.

In a statement Leicestershire police said: “Police are currently in attendance at an incident in Melbourne Street, Leicester.

“Road closures remain in place in the area while officers continue to carry out enquiries at the scene.

“We will continue to provide further updates as and when we are able to.”

This message was retweeted six times by members of the public.

Victoria Hicks, a reporter from BBC East Midlands Today, tweeted a photo from the scene.

It showed the street cordoned off by police tape in several places.

Leicester Media, a local news outlet, tweeted: “Several streets are cordoned off in the Spinney Hills area of Leicester. Police have placed cordons around Melbourne Street down to Keythorpe Street.

“Due to an ongoing serious incident which happened in the early hours of this.”

The tweet was accompanied with a one minute 11 second video clip from the scene.

This showed police tape across the street, whilst a number of uniformed officers stand guard.

To protect against the coronavirus pandemic, all the officers seen in the video are wearing masks.

Leicestershire Police first tweeted about the incident at 0.22am on Thursday morning.

They said: “Due to a police incident on Melbourne Street, Spinney Hills, the road has been closed until further notice.

“Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
