Liberal Democrats suffer Brexit backlash for using coronavirus as excuse to STAY in the EU

Liberal Democrat MP Christine Jardine told Mr Wootton that the Brexit negotiations with the European Union should be put on hold for six months while the coronavirus outbreak is ongoing. The talkRADIO host questioned the link between the trade talks and the COVID-19 outbreak and instead blasted the Liberal Democrats for being willing to “do anything to stop Brexit.”

Ms Jardine said: “Regardless of what you might think about Brexit surely people will agree that the health of people in this country has to come before any consideration.

“That is what we should be prioritising.”

Mr Wooton replied: “Of course, but there is no evidence that delaying Brexit would help at all with the fight against coronavirus.

“Do you understand why your party having taken a revoke position at the election has maybe lost credibility when you say you’re doing this for the good of the coronavirus?

“Because my feeling about the Lib Dems is that you want to stop Brexit at any cost.

“You will do anything to stop Brexit, anything at all.”

The Liberal Democrat MP replied: “What the Liberal Democrats are saying is that we need to prioritise dealing with the coronavirus.

“That might mean putting the trade talks off for six months with the European Union.

“We have an international emergency and that must take priority.”

There have currently been more than 119,000 cases of COVID-19 across the globe.

The death toll currently stands at over 4300.

More than 66,000 people have recovered from being infected with the coronavirus.
