A section of the Westbound M56 has been closed after the collision between junctions six and eight with one vehicle on fire. The closure is causing traffic to build up.
Transport authorities have confirmed that emergency service workers are at the scene.
Highways North West has said that a diversion is in place to route traffic around the crash.
It said: “The M56 in Cheshire is closed westbound between J6 and J8 due to a multi-vehicle collision which has resulted in a vehicle fire.
“Cheshire Fire & Rescue and North West Motorway Police Group are on scene.
“Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion signs. “
