Man, 55, arrested after seven-year-old boy killed in car crash

A man has been taken into police custody after a seven-year-old was killed in a car crash in Devon.

The child was walking near a rugby pitch in Plymstock, a suburb of Plymouth, when the incident happened at around 11.10am today.

He was taken by ambulance from the scene on Wembury Road to a local hospital, but later died.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 55-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and remains in custody.

In a statement, the police said the child’s next of kin had been informed.

They added: ‘The road currently remains closed and officers from the Roads Policing Team are carrying out investigations at the scene.

‘Anyone who was in the area at the time and has dash cam footage or any information which may assist our enquiries is asked to report it online quoting log 331 of February 19.’
