Man dies after lorry crashes into row of houses

A man has died after an artic lorry crashed into a row of properties in Purfleet, Essex.

The heavy vehicle left the road around 3.25pm yesterday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

Photos from the scene show the artic lorry lodged between a fence and one of the homes at Jarrah Cottages on London Road.

Essex Police said in a statement: ‘Officers investigating a serious collision in Purfleet are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage.

‘We were called to Jarrah Cottages, London Road, shortly before 3.25pm on Friday 10 March following reports of a serious collision in which an artic lorry left the road and was in collision with several properties.

‘The road was closed whilst police and colleagues from ambulance and fire emergency services dealt.’

Thurrock Council have offered support to those affected.
