Man stabbed to death outside row of shops at lunchtime

Neighbours heard people ‘screaming for help’ as a man was stabbed to death this afternoon in Merseyside.

The victim, whose age is yet to be confirmed, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers were called to the scene in Kirbky shortly before 1pm and a heavy police presence remains.

The stabbing may have followed a brief argument near a row of shops, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A woman who lives close to the scene said: ‘I heard some shouting from my garden but couldn’t hear what was said so didn’t think anything of it.

‘And then I heard people screaming for help. It was awful’.

Forensics officers are examining the area and surrounding roads have been closed to the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Warlow said: ‘This is a very sad incident in which we are only in the very early stages of investigating.

‘Therefore we are urgently appealing for anyone with information, no matter how small, to come and speak to us.

‘Someone knows the person responsible and we need that person to come forward.’
