Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family in March and have since moved to LA. But after news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened their home, Frogmore Cottage, to Princess Eugenie, royal commentators Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie questioned whether the royal couple would ever return to the UK. They noted that royal biographer Omid Scobie explained that the house is “on loan” to Eugenie and her husband who are expecting.

Speaking on Royally Obsessed, Ms Fiorito asked: “I’m a little sad because I feel like, will Harry and Meghan go back as much?”

Ms Bowie said: “I think so. The Sun first broke the story and couched it as ‘they’re leaving the UK permanently’ but Omid Scobie had a story with sources that said ‘this is just a loan and it’s a chance for Eugenie and Jack to be in close proximity to the Royal Lodge at Great Windsor Park where their parents are’.

“Harry and Meghan will stay with Eugenie and Jack whenever they visit the UK and there was a quote that they’re delighted to open up their home as they start their family.

“I think that really is just a vacant property, no one’s using it.

“The Sussexes fully own it because they’ve spent £3.2million of their own money to renovate it and they’ve repaid the Sovereign grant.

“I just feel they’re all family and Eugenie happens to be very close to Harry and Meghan.

“I think that they will be back.”

Shortly after news of the move, Omid Scobie wrote on Twitter that a source said the property is “on loan”.

He wrote: “Frogmore Cottage continues to be the couple’s residence in the UK and they are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family.

“They have not moved out and will still stay at the house during UK visits.”

ITV Royal Rota hosts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson believe Frogmore will be “crowded” when Meghan and Harry return.

Mr Ship told listeners: “We were told by a source in Harry and Meghan’s office that they would have probably been back here much sooner had it not been for Covid.

“In any case, it’s the kind of place that they would have to stay if they were going to come over for the court case, which we now know has also been delayed.

“So Frogmore Cottage might get a bit crowded if Harry and Meghan do want to come over for a little stay in the UK because they’re going to bunk up.

“We’re told that Frogmore remains the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s residence in the UK and they will retain financial responsibility.”

He continued: “They are ‘delighted’ to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they begin to start their own family.”
