The Duchess of Cambridge has been challenged over the reasons behind Megxit by the former royal correspondent at The Sun. Royal commentator Charles Rae has cast doubt on Meghan Markle’s motivations for quitting royal duties earlier this year along with Prince Harry. During the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle listed mental health concerns and the pressure on them as reasons for walking away from the Royal Family.

Mr Rae told GB News: “Meghan Markle was welcomed into this country no matter what she says now.

“She was welcomed into this country, she was more than welcomed into the Royal Family without a shadow of a doubt.

“When you look at the way that Princess Diana and the Duchess of York were welcomed into the Royal Family – no comparison whatsoever.

“They bent over backward and when she and Harry were out and about the people were on the street, dozens of people lining the street, hundreds of people lining the street.

“They welcomed her.

“It only turned sour when she decided that she no longer wanted to be part of the Royal Family and wanted to go back to America.”

Mr Rae added: “She was welcomed into this country, she was welcomed into the Royal Family.

“It was her decision that she wanted to quit it because she couldn’t take what she called the pressure.

Meghan and Harry ‘are not double A-Listers’ says Dickie Arbiter

“What pressure? All she had to do was work for the Royal Family.

“I don’t think there was that much pressure on her or Harry.”

It comes as Meghan and Harry were snubbed by Barack Obama with the Sussexes not invited to the former US President’s star-studded birthday celebrations.

Royal insider Dickie Arbiter told Australia’s Today programme the snub was “not a surprise at all.”

He said: “There was speculation they would be invited but I don’t think they were ever even on the list.”

“The Obamas have invited not just A-listers but the double A-listers, they have said that Barack doesn’t want any presents, what he wants is guests to donate to help young men get on the work ladder, particularly young people of colour.

“You are talking about Oprah Winfrey, the Clooneys, and Rihanna.

“Meghan and Harry are just not in that same league of celebrity. They are not double A-listers.”
