Meghan Markle outrage: Brits back Duchess by voting her UK’s most unfairly treated person

Meghan Markle has won the top spot as the UK’s most unfairly treated person of 2019 in a survey completed by thousands of people. Thus Duchess of Sussex was closely followed by Ant McPartlin, The Queen, Greta Thunberg and Alex Hollywood respectively.

Thousands of people completed the survey, carried out by PlayOJO, with half of those asked agreeing the royal newbie has had a particularly bad year.

The 37-year-old has been bombarded with criticism since marrying into the royal family.

Her 2018 royal wedding with Prince Harry marked her entrance into the limelight, her every move, outfit and decision made scrutinised since.

The colour of her nail varnish was even frowned upon, as well as the way in which she held baby Archie at a charity event.

Meghan has admitted how hard life has been for her since joining the royal family in an emotional interview with ITV in South Africa.

Speaking to journalist Tom Bradby about the difficulties of royal life, Meghan gave an emotional interview in what was a first for the former Suits star.

She held back tears and admitted she was “not ok” and how she had found the past year “really challenging”.

She said: “Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know.

JUST INQueen’s Christmas party: When is it and will Meghan and Harry go?

“And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed it’s, well…”.

The clip then cut to Mr Bradby who asked Meghan how she was doing.

She replied: “Thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

High up on the list was Ant McPartlin, who came in as the second most unfairly treated person of the year.

Meghan Markle and Harry kept from quitting duties due to Royal Family

The TV star had a tough time following his arrest after being caught drink-driving, as well as issues with his ex-wife.

The Queen was also among the top, coming in at number three, after the public acknowledged the ordeals she has had to go through this year with son Prince Andrew to the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson asking her to suspend Parliament.

Greta Thunberg has undergone similar backlash, including from US President Donald Trump, on her efforts to protect the planet and drive awareness around climate change.

A spokesperson for PlayOJO said: “We’re keen to re-address the 2019 balance and not only acknowledge Meghan Markle’s tumultuous year, but offer her some respite.

“Whatever you think of her, the majority of us Brits clearly agree on one thing – she’s had a pretty tough year.

“Ever since her relationship with Prince Harry became public, she has become the victim of severe and often unjustified criticism.

“It’s no surprise the nation thinks she’s been the most unfairly treated person of 2019.”

They added: “Treating our players fairly is fundamental to our business, we know how bad it feels to be treated unfairly in the casino industry, so we asked participants in our survey how we could make Meghan Markle’s year fairer if they had a chance.

“Answers ranged from giving her some down time to simply getting her a drink!”

PlayOJO plan to donate £500 to Smart Works, the charity of which Meghan is a patron.
