Meghan Markle set to become author with children's book about dogs

Meghan Markle is set to become a published author as she begins work on her first book, believed to be about her dogs.

A source close to the royal family has said that The Duchess of Sussex is in the process of writing her debut novel.

However, while Meghan hasn’t fully decided on a topic, the book definitely will not give away any secrets about royal life.

It is expected that the book will be a children’s book about her rescue dogs as Meghan is a well known animal lover.

The Duchess is following in her family’s footsteps with the move after her father-in-law Prince Charles released a children’s book called The Old Man of Lochnagar in 1980.

A royal insider said: ‘Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it.

‘The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time.

‘But she’s very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children.

‘She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story.

‘Any book will absolutely not be some sort of tell-all about her life in the royal family.’

It’s expected that the profits from the likely bestseller will go to charity.

The Duchess of Sussex has had a particularly busy few weeks, recently turned her hand to guest editing the September issue of Vogue.

Vogue’s largest and most important issue of the year featured 15 inspiring women from around the world on the cover and included interviews with Michelle Obama and primatologist Dr Jane Goodall.

Meghan herself did not feature on the spread as she thought it would be ‘boastful’ according to the magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful.

It was announced earlier this week that she would be launching a clothing collection with John Lewis in aid of the charity Smart Works, of which she is a patron.

The collection will be launched in September and for every item purchased, one is donated to the charity which helps women who have been out of work prepare for interviews.
