Meghan and Harry are expected to return to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations next week. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be accompanied by their two children — Archie Harrison, three, and Lilibet Diana, 11 months — marking their first visit as a family after their shock exit two years ago. While Buckingham Palace confirmed Meghan and Harry will not join the Queen on the balcony during Trooping the Colour, the Sussexes are expected to attend other events during the celebratory weekend.

Their return comes amid speculation of a rift between the couple and the Royal Family, particularly within Harry’s relationships with his father and brother.

The Duke’s recent meeting with Prince Charles was described as “edgy” and he was unable to reunite with his older brother as Prince William and his wife, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, were on a family ski trip in France.

Harry later avoided a question about whether he missed William and Charles, and instead told NBC’s Hoda Kotb that his focus was on the competitors at the Invictus Games.

Tension between the brothers is understood to have started in the early days of Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle.

William reportedly voiced concerns about the swift pace of the romance — concerns that Harry took as criticism.

However, the Duke of Cambridge was not the only confidant to express uncertainty about the relationship — a friend of Meghan’s warned the duchess about her new boyfriend just a few months into the relationship.

According to Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durant, co-authors of ‘Finding Freedom’, the friend “cautioned” the duchess about “getting involved” with the prince.

In an extract from the book, serialised in The Times, Mr Scobie and Ms Durant wrote: “Ever since the couple’s trip to Africa, their romance had been on a fast track.

“‘Technically the getaway was just their third date,’ said a friend about Botswana, ‘but by then, they were each already dancing around the idea that this just may be a forever thing.’

“For Meghan, she was all in. Nothing could get her to slow down, not even a friend who cautioned her about getting involved with Harry.

“‘They hate royal wives and girlfriends. They will come after you,’ he said. ‘Look at Diana.’”

Diana, Princess of Wales was considered to be one of the most famous women in the world and often made headlines for both her charity work and her private life.

The princess is understood to have had a mixed relationship with the press, sometimes blasting them for being intrusive, but other times giving personal interviews.

Paparazzi also played a role in the tragic death of Diana in August, 1997.

In 2008, a jury decided that the princess had been unlawfully killed by the “grossly negligent driving of the following vehicles [the paparazzi] and of the Mercedes driver Henri Paul.”

Harry referenced his mother’s history following his and Meghan’s shock exit from the firm in 2020.

In a now-infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry said he feared “history repeating itself”.

He told the chat show host in 2021: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself and I’ve said that before on numerous occasions, very publicly.

“And what I was seeing was history repeating itself.”

More recently, the duke has opened up on the impact his mother has on his life now.

In his interview with Hoda Kotb during the Invictus Games, Harry said he feels his mother’s presence “more so than ever before. “

He continued: “And it is almost as though she’s done her bit with my brother and now she’s very much, like, helping me. Got him set up. And now she’s helping me set up. That’s what it feels like, you know?”
