Meghan Markle’s top aide resigns to work for eco-charity after private jet row

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private secretary was first reported to have resigned last October. It came amid a string of staff quitting, prompting claims Meghan was difficult to work with.

Ms Cohen, who has worked for the royals for 17 years, has a new job with Cool Earth, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The non-profit organisation works to halt deforestation and climate change.

It comes months after Prince Harry and Meghan sparked a private jet row when it emerged they took four private jets in 11 days to luxury holidays despite preaching to the public about saving the planet.

The Sussexes travelled by private jet to Ibiza over the summer, before taking the gas-guzzling mode of transport to Sir Elton John’s home in Nice.

Other staff resignations Meghan has faced include her assistant private secretary Amy Pickerill, her personal assistant Melissa Touabti and her female bodyguard.

Meghan and Harry are currently taking six weeks off after admitting they were struggling with the pressures of royal life in an explosive ITV documentary filmed during their Africa tour.

The couple are skipping Christmas at Sandringham with the Queen and spending it with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.

It is not known if that will be at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor or the US.

This Christmas is Meghan and Harry’s first with their son Archie, who was born in May.

The Sussexes’ decision not to join the royal family has fuelled ongoing rumours of a rift with Prince William and Kate.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement in November: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month.

“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

On Friday, Meghan and Harry wished their followers on Instagram a Happy Thanksgiving.

They included a maple leaf in their message, sparking speculation they were in Canada.
