Russia shot down two Ukrainian kamikaze drones over Moscow, the Russian defence ministry said.

Two further drones were brought down over the Bryansk region which borders Ukraine in the early morning attack.

Explosions were reported in what is fast becoming a nightly reality for Russians living in and close to the capital city.

Footage shows shattered windows and debris on the ground in Krasnogorsk, a large suburb in the west of Moscow.

Air space over the Russian capital was briefly closed and three airports suspended flights.

This marks the latest in a series of drone strikes in the Russian capital.

Russian officials blamed Ukraine for a flurry of drone incidents on Sunday which affected four separate regions.

Most of the drones were said to have been downed without incident, though the governor of the Kursk region claimed five people were injured after the wreckage of one device hit a railway station, causing a fire to break out.

Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks in recent days, giving Muscovites a taste of the warfare Putin has unleashed on multiple Ukraine cities.

On Friday residents in Moscow were woken by a ‘powerful explosion’ after another drone was shot down near the Expo Centre – less than three miles from the Kremlin.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, previously said attacks inside Russia’s borders were an ‘inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process’ of the war.

‘Air defence shot down two attack drones. One in the Krasnogorsk area, the other in the Chastsy area,’ said Moscow mayor Sergey Soyanin.

The facade and windows of a 25-storey tower block were damaged as were cars parked nearby.

The Russian defence ministry said: ‘The Kyiv regime’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using drones was foiled.

The UAVs were ‘detected and destroyed by air defences’ over Moscow region, which rings the capital city.

‘No casualties occurred as a result of these foiled terrorist attacks.’

There was no immediate comment from Kyiv.

Ukraine almost never publicly claims responsibility for strikes inside Russia.

But Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, previously said attacks inside Russia’s borders were an ‘inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process’ of the war.
