Mum, 29, 'ran from home carrying baby' before dying from stab wounds

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman ran into the street crying for help before dying from her knife wounds.

The mum, 29, was carrying her four-month-old baby when she dashed out of a home in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent following a disturbance at around 4.45pm yesterday.

Residents say she ran across the road and banged on a neighbour’s door before collapsing onto the ground and dying a short time later.

Neighbour Sarah Horvath told the Sun: ‘Some people said she was covered in blood when she ran. It’s just terrible but thankfully the baby is fine and with relatives.’

Another said: ‘She was shouting for help and ran across the road to get away. It’s horrible.’

June Cartwright added: ‘This is such an awful thing to have happened and the community is in shock. My thoughts are with the woman’s family.’

Today police arrested a 39-year-old man from Bournemouth, Dorset, who remains in custody.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: ‘Formal identification of the deceased woman is yet to take place.

‘The woman’s family are being supported by specially trained officers at this time and we would kindly urge people to respect their privacy and not to speculate as to her identity or the circumstances of the case as enquiries continue.’

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out this weekend.
