A mother has been charged with murdering her five-year-old daughter.
Sutha Sivanantham, 35, is accused of killing Sayagi Sivanantham, who was stabbed to death at their home in Mitcham, south London.
She is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court via video-link today.
The pair were both found with knife wounds at the flat in Monarch Parade on the afternoon of June 30. Sayagi was taken by paramedics to hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
A post-mortem examination held at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital on July 3 found she died of stab injuries.
Her mother was also taken to hospital in a critical condition after a neighbour, Elsa Gonzales, 47, said she found her ‘lying on the floor in a pool of blood’.
Following the alleged murder, Ms Gonzales described Sayagi as a ‘smart kid’, who ‘was always smiling’.
She said: ‘She was a cheeky little girl, always playing with the neighbourhood kids.’
