Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are predicted to “step into Hollywood” as Netflix executives hint that the couple are preparing for a number of upcoming projects. Royal commentator Omid Scobie said that a “movie announcement” could be on the cards for the Sussexes, as they branch out into scripted series through their production company Archewell. The couple have already announced that they are working on two series, Heart of Invictus and Pearl, which are expected to be released next year.
Royal author Omid Scobie revealed that he had spoken to Netflix executives, who had hinted that the couple had a number of projects in the pipeline.
He told the podcast Royally Obsessed: “All that was said to me was ‘oh man, you don’t even know the half of what they’re working on. They are aiming so high’.
“I think one thing that may surprise at some point and this is just my own guess is where we’re going to hear some sort of movie announcement.
“It’s only a matter of time before they have acquired the rights to a really incredible story that they’re able to bring to life through a movie or a television drama.
“We’ve heard a lot about the non-scripted work but there is that whole side of the production company that is scripted.
“It’s only a matter of time before that comes to life and I think that’s really exciting because it’s a side of them we’ve never seen or heard of before but one they’re really eager to get into.
“Being able to step into Hollywood a little bit but try and do it in a much more impactful and socially conscious way.
“That’s going to be really interesting to me.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in September 2020 that they had signed a multi-million-pound deal with streaming giants Netflix and Spotify.
In a deal estimated to be worth over £100million, the couple have agreed to produce a range of “informative” and “uplifting” content.
Through their own non-profit organisation Archewell, they have also established their own audio and production company.
Recent hires have included former Disney executive Nishika Kumble as Head of Scripted and leading producer Rebecca Sananes as Head of Audio.

Whilst the couple are yet to announce a series with Spotify, they have begun work on two series with the streaming giant Netflix.
In April, Prince Harry revealed that he would be executive-producing a series titled ‘Heart of Invictus’, which will follow the competitors and organisers of the 2022 Invictus Games.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle is set to produce the children’s animated series Pearl, which will follow the “heroic adventures” of a 12-year-old girl as she interacts with famous women throughout history.
She will co-produce the series alongside Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, with the series expected to premiere in 2022.
