A couple have died after their Audi collided with a tree and burst into flames in the early hours of this morning.
Jack Nunn, 24, and his girlfriend, NHS nurse Hannah Elsworth, 22, had dropped off friends just before the crash.
A relative said that Ms Elsworth worked at Barnsley Hospital, while Mr Nunn was co-owner of business JJ tyres, according to MailOnline.
The paper reporter that Mr Nunn lives just 980 feet from where the crash took place on Huddersfield Road, Wilthorpe, Barnsley, at around 1am today.
The car, reported to be a white Audi, hit the tree on the A635 between Westbourne Grove and High Balk.
The collision was attended by paramedics but the couple were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police closed the section of the road between around 1am and 1pm this afternoon while traffic accident investigators carried out their inquiries.
Early this afternoon, mourners gathered at the tree to console one another and leave floral tributes.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said this morning: ‘We received a report at around 1am this morning of a collision on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.
‘It is reported that a car had collided with a tree. Police and emergency services attended.
‘Both the driver and the passenger were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Enquiries continue.’
The force has appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
A police spokesperson said: “Police are asking for anyone who saw what happened, or anyone who thinks they may have dashcam footage of the incident, to please call 101 quoting incident number 95 of 21 June 1.
