Except for her bodyguard and the paparazzi who shot the photos, the Duchess of Sussex could have been incognito in the streets of Montecito, California, on Wednesday afternoon. The mother of two was seen at Pierre LaFond & Co., a chic pint-size grocery shop with an upstairs gift and home furnishings department.

She was seen leaving half an hour later with two bags and her bodyguard carrying a folded up blanket in a plastic bag.

According to, Meghan then visited kids’ clothing shop Poppy and home furnishing store Hudson Grace but left empty-handed and went back into her car.

With her blue mask and shades, the Duchess was utterly unrecognisable.

She was also wearing a brown Massimo Dutti wool coat, Tamara Mellon boots, Bottega Veneta clutch and a brown beanie.

A passerby told the Daily Mail: “There was a franticness to her shopping like she was just itching to get out and be somewhat normal.

“Even if it was for just an hour.”

According to retail strategist and Kitson owner Fraser Ross, the Duchess was wearing designer pieces that she had worn before.

He said: “It’s smart of Meghan to recycle her wardrobe.

“It makes her more relatable to her fans out there who may be having a tough time because of the pandemic.”

Earlier this week, a royal family member publicly supported Meghan and Harry’s decision to move to California and step down from royal duties.

In an interview on the Italian talk show, Porta a Porta, Sarah Ferguson said Meghan Markle seems to be making the Duke of Sussex happy.

She explained: “The most important thing—and I know Diana if she were here, would say that— is they are happy.

“And she makes him happy.

“And I love to see that little boy that cried at the funeral to have happiness now.”

In an earlier interview, she also said: “I believe that Diana would be so proud of her boys, and she’d be so proud of her grandchildren.”
