A ‘well-loved’ nursery worker died following a ‘tragic accident’ at a childcare centre yesterday.
Police and paramedics rushed to the Kiddi Caru nursery in Plympton, Plymouth, shortly before 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon where she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Colleagues said they are ‘heartbroken by this terrible event’ and confirmed no children witnessed the accident or its aftermath.
In a statement, the nursery said: ‘In what seems to have been a tragic accident, a member of our staff died today on nursery premises.
‘The accident happened in a part of the building where no children were present. No child witnessed the accident or its aftermath.
‘The safety and wellbeing of our children and staff is our first priority at all times. The incident is still being investigated but the early indications are that it does not raise any ongoing safety concerns.
‘Everybody at the nursery is heartbroken by this terrible event and the loss of a well-loved staff member. Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague and her loved ones.’
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Police were called to an address at the Langage Park Office Campus by the ambulance service with a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at around 1.20pm.
‘Emergency services attended the scene where the woman was sadly confirmed deceased. Her next of kin have been informed.
‘The Health and Safety Executive have also been informed and police enquiries are ongoing.’
