A lorry driver has died and several people left injured after a rubbish truck smashed into parked cars before crashing into a house.
An 11-year-old child was rushed to hospital in a ‘life threatening’ condition following the crash in Kidbrooke, south-east London, just after 8am.
The driver was declared dead at the scene and a further two men were taken to hospital. Their condition is not yet known.
Three cars were left with crumbled bonnets and pieces were sprawled across the road.
Onlookers said the lorry also crashed into other cars further up the road.
Fire brigade commander Stephen Irvine said: ‘We are dealing with a challenging and protractive road traffic collision that has caused extensive damage to a house.
‘Specialist Urban Search and Rescue crews and firefighters are working to free one person from a vehicle.
‘The London Ambulance Service has treated a number of casualties. We are likely to be at the scene throughout the morning and I’d ask people to avoid the area where possible.’
