A pensioner has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead at a property in Chessington, Greater London.
The Metropolitan Police say they were called to an address in Ranyard Close in the early hours on Saturday following concerns for the welfare of a woman.
The victim, 48, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The force said Keith Bettison, 71, also of Ranyard Close, Chessington, has been charged with murder and is due to appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Officers believe the deceased and the suspect were known to each other.
Police said the woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command (Homicide) are leading the investigation.
In a previous statement, Superintendent Richard Smith said: “My thoughts are with the woman who has lost her life and her friends and family.
“This is being treated as an isolated incident and we don’t believe there to be any wider risk to people living and working in the area.
“Local officers from our neighbourhood policing teams will be on duty throughout the weekend, working hard to keep the people of London safe.”
