Due to her health and vulnerability, Pamela Wyndham, 93, who lives in a warden-aided complex, needs to be visited at home for her COVID-19 vaccinations. Although roving teams visit people across the UK who can’t attend appointments, Pamela struggled to get her first dose, her daughter Faye Wyndham-Crouch says.
Faye complained to the NHS, reports Nottinghamshire Live, but never had a response.
Both mother and daughter eventually had the Oxford Astrazeneca jab together on February 23, when Army officers turned up at Pamela’s home.
But more than three months on, the pensioner, of West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, is still waiting for her second dose, which was scheduled for May 12.
Faye said: “They’ve got all my details, we’re just waiting. It makes me wonder, have they just forgotten mum? It was a bit of a palaver the first time, it was only by chance that a carer was with mum when the Army turned up, and they called me.
“By definition, people who are housebound usually have additional needs and they can’t pursue any problems.
“Mum wouldn’t be able to answer the door if we weren’t here and she wouldn’t understand what was happening.”

Faye has also complained to the NHS watchdog Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is responsible for the rollout.
She added: “It’s not her fault and I’m sure there are others in her position but no one has been in contact.
“She is housebound, she has dementia. I got my second dose because I could go to a centre but mum can’t.
“I appreciate it’s busy and it’s a difficult time, and I hate complaining.
“I think they have done a good job of the vaccine programme, but I am at the end of my tether now and I feel the CCG are at fault.
“It’s been an absolute nightmare and I just keep hitting a brick wall when I try contacting anyone.”
With concerns over a third wave of coronavirus, Faye, of Sherwood, Nottingham, is desperate to see her mum get the protection of a second dose.
“I want to emphasise I am really happy with the NHS, it is just in this one instance I have concerns,” Faye said.
“It’s great others are getting second doses, but I’m wondering about the effectiveness now it’s been 15 weeks.
“I’ve even left a notice on mum’s door with my number and the carer, so we don’t miss someone if they turn up.
“I just think this team needs to be contactable to alleviate concerns and also so they know how to support the people they are visiting.
“We keep getting letters to say mum is eligible and we see the adverts – we are trying but just going round in circles.”
A spokesperson for NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG apologised for what had happened.
They said: “We would like to apologise for the delay and for any stress or anxiety this may have caused. We are working through a small number of second doses for housebound residents, which are slightly late due to recent growth in the number of housebound patients.
“Our teams have contacted anyone who is due their second dose to arrange an appointment as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please call 0115 883 4640.”
