President Zelensky to visit UK today for first visit since Russian invasion

Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the UK today, for the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Downing Street confirmed the news this morning, as Vladimir Putin faces further losses on the battlefield.

The Ukrainian President will use his surprise visit to see his country’s troops being trained by the British armed forces.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is to expand the training offered by the UK to include fighter jet pilots and marines.

He is also promising a long-term investment in Ukraine’s military.

Mr Sunak said: ‘President Zelensky’s visit to the UK is a testament to his country’s courage, determination and fight, and a testament to the unbreakable friendship between our two countries.

‘Since 2014, the UK has provided vital training to Ukrainian forces, allowing them to defend their country, protect their sovereignty and fight for their territory.

‘I am proud that today we will expand that training from soldiers to marines and fighter jet pilots, ensuring Ukraine has a military able to defend its interests well into the future.

‘It also underlines our commitment to not just provide military equipment for the short term, but a long-term pledge to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine for years to come.’

The news comes as Vladimir Putin faces further losses on the battlefield as the war wages on.

According to local reports, he has lost yet another general.

Formerly retired Major-General Dmitry Ulyanov, 44, returned to active service as a commander in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

But he was killed in a firefight by a Ukrainian sabotage group earlier this week, reports claim.

Ulyanov was previously a top paratrooper, and commander of the elite 98th Guards Airborne Division.
