While it has been said the Prince does not often eat lunch, he is said to be very picky about his first meal of the day. According to royal author Sally Bedell Smith, Charles typically eats the same thing for breakfast: Specially mixed wheat germ and cereal grains with added honey. This is often accompanied by fruit and tea.
However, there is one part of the breakfast which has led to such speculation that an official spokeswoman for the royal specifically denied it was true.
According to Jeremy Paxman, journalist and broadcaster, Prince Charles is so fussy about boiled eggs that royal chefs prepare multiple just in case some aren’t right.
Mr Paxman wrote in his book On Royalty: “Because his staff were never quite sure whether the egg would be precisely to the satisfactory hardness, a series of eggs was cooked, and laid out in an ascending row of numbers.”
The journalist remarked the habit was “one of the most extraordinary stories I came upon while researching this book.”
The claim has been backed up by one of Charles’ private chefs, Mervyn Wycherly, who said the royal’s eggs “had to be boiled for exactly four minutes”.
There have also been claims by royal authors that the eggs which the Prince did not like are simply thrown away.

A spokeswoman from Clarence House, the London residence of Prince William and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has denied reports of the wasteful egg habit. She said the claim was “Completely untrue”.
Indeed, Prince Charles also has a reputation for being environmentally-conscious.
Only last month, the Prince opened a ‘community fridge’ which aimed to reduce food waste and redistribute it instead.

The opening marked the 100th fridge in the Community Fridge Network run by environmental charity Hubbub.
It was opened by Charles at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
According to Hello! magazine, Charles is a fan of organic food and grows of a lot of it at home, in addition to keeping chickens.
TV chief Ainsley Harriott told the magazine about the Prince’s love for food in an interview, in which he said Charles “really loves the food” at Asian function events they have both attended.
Last month, the Prince spoke out in a video posted to Twitter in which he encouraged viewers to focus on the natural world.
Charles said: “We’ve forgotten sometimes, I think, that we are part of nature.”
He also urged humanity to “come together as a world” on environmental issues and said: “We’ve got to remember that the natural world is what sustains us.”
He has also warned global warming would “dwarf the impact of the coronavirus pandemic”.
Charles called on people to take on a “warlike footing” in their approach to environmental action.
