Prince George is celebrating his eighth birthday today. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released a new portrait snapped by Kate of the boy to mark the big day.
While royal fans were delighted to see a new snap of the future King, they were divided on whom Prince George looks like the most.
Many believe he is growing up to look just like Prince William.
A royal fan shared on Twitter two pictures of the Duke of Cambridge as a child and, referring to Prince George’s new picture, they said: “Will, is that you?”
A royal watcher replied to this tweet saying: “He looks so much like his dad”.
Another Twitter user wrote: “You can see so much of William in this photo. Happy Birthday to our Future King.
“Beautiful photo as always captured by Kate.”
However, other royal fans have seen similarities between Prince George and other royal relatives.
One, publishing a picture of the Queen’s father and her uncle when they were young boys, wrote: “It is absolutely wonderful how much Prince George resembles both his great-great-grandfather, George VI, and HIS brother, Edward VIII — especially the latter! Identical smiles.”
Another royal fan also believed Prince George presents strong Windsors’ traits – but believes he looks like King George V rather than the late King’s sons.
They said: “He reminds of a young King George V. Happy Birthday HRH”.
Other royal watchers also saw similarities Kate’s father, Michael Middleton.
One said: “Such an adorable, grown-up young man he is becoming!
“Looks so much like his Papa here, with a bit of Grandad Middleton too.
“Have a wonderful 8th birthday Prince George, filled with love, laughter and joy #weloveprincegeorge”.
One Twitter user replied to this tweet saying: “He really is like Catherine’s dad”.
And another added: “Absolutely. I’ve always thought he looks like Mr Middleton.
“Though I saw a photo of George V at around George’s age earlier and they look a lot alike!”
Kensington Palace released the picture of the birthday boy yesterday evening, writing on Twitter: “Turning eight(!) tomorrow”.
The picture was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge earlier this month at Anmer Hall, the Norfolk residence of the Cambridges.
In the snap, George smiles widely to the camera as he perches on the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender against the backdrop of a field.
The choice of including a Land Rover in the snap of the third in line to the throne can be interpreted as a tribute to the late Prince Philip, who regularly drove vehicles by the British 4×4 brand.
The Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9 at Windsor Castle.
On the following week, during his funeral, his coffin was carried from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel on a specially adapted Defender he had helped design.
