Royal patronages are a key way in which members of the monarchy lend their support to important UK institutions and charities and Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, have hundreds between them. During their time as working royals Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, also accrued a number of honorary roles that tied them to UK organisations.

While the couple promised to honour their patronages after stepping down as senior royals last March, now they are based in the USA fulltime the future of their patronages hangs in the balance.

Prince Harry holds 16 patronages in total as well as several honorary military titles.

As part of the exit deal agreed with the Queen it was decided Prince Harry’s military honours would be put on hold for a year pending royal review.

The Queen is due to review Meghan and Harry’s royal status in March and may reconsider whether or not the couple should keep the roles.
