Royal patronages are a key way in which members of the monarchy lend their support to important UK institutions and charities and Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, have hundreds between them. During their time as working royals Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, also accrued a number of honorary roles that tied them to UK organisations.
While the couple promised to honour their patronages after stepping down as senior royals last March, now they are based in the USA fulltime the future of their patronages hangs in the balance.
Prince Harry holds 16 patronages in total as well as several honorary military titles.
As part of the exit deal agreed with the Queen it was decided Prince Harry’s military honours would be put on hold for a year pending royal review.
The Queen is due to review Meghan and Harry’s royal status in March and may reconsider whether or not the couple should keep the roles.

As a working royal, the Duke held the honorary roles of Captain-General Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant, RAF Honington Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command.
While he will keep the ranks he earnt during his 10-year military career, the Queen could decide to strip him of his ceremonial titles.

Meghan accrued four royal patronages during her short stint as a senior royal.
The National Theatre
The Association of Commonwealth Universities.
According to one royal insider, the Sussexes understand their royal patronages are not a given.
Since quitting the royal family the couple have gained financial independence from the Firm and landed several lucrative commercial deals.
Next month Meghan will give a tell-all interview to USA chatshow royalty Oprah Winfrey.
The sitdown will be the first time Meghan will answer questions about her time as a royal since stepping away from the Firm.
