Prince Harry arrives in Canada as Duke and Meghan begin new life in Vancouver

After crunch talks with other senior members of the Royal Family over the last week, Harry touched down in Canada to join Meghan who had left the UK earlier this month. The Duke of Sussex was seen touching down at Victoria International Airport on Monday night following his appearance at the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London.

While there, the Duke of Sussex met with Boris Johnson before flying to join Meghan and their son, Archie.

The Prince was accompanied by protection officers as he continued his trip to join his wife and child.

Harry’s arrival in Canada comes as he admitted he and Meghan’s departure from the country was a last resort and that they had “no other option” during an appearance at a charity dinner on Sunday night.

He said: “It brings me great sadness that it has come to this.

“The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly.

“It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges.

“And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option.

“What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.

“I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am.”

The Queen held talks wth with Harry, Meghan and other senior members of the Royal Family in order to assess their change of lifestyle earlier this month.

Over the weekend, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the parameters of the new arrangement.

As requested by Meghan and Harry, the pair will no longer be funded by public money.

With the Sussexes now stepping away from royal duties, Meghan and Harry will no longer be entitled to public funds and will also repay the £2.4million spent on Frogmore Cottage.

The cottage will still be used as their UK base as they split time between Canada and the UK.

Moreover, the pair will no longer use their Her/His Royal Highness titles.

Harry will also step down from his military roles such as his position as Captain-General of the Royal Marines.

Although they will no longer represent the Queen, they will still adhere to her values.

The Sussexes will also retain their private patronages and associations.

The palace, however, did not confirm the details of the security arrangements for the couple.

The new model will take place from spring 2020.
