Diana, Princess of Wales, wanted Prince Harry and Prince William “to be familiar with the Spencer side of the family”. The royal, who was known as Lady Diana Spencer before her marriage to Prince Charles, found that her red-headed youngest son encompassed that group of relations very well. She even had a nickname for the now Duke of Sussex, according to Channel 5 documentary, ‘When the Spencers Met the Monarchy’.

Majesty Magazine Editor-in-Chief Ingrid Seward told viewers: “Diana always said that Prince Harry was the naughty one like her.

“She called him, ‘My little Spencer’.”

Daily Mail Editor-at-Large Richard Kay said: “Diana was very proud of her Spencer heritage.

“She wanted her children to be familiar with the Spencer side of the family.”

He added: “So it wasn’t just going to be all about the royals.”

According to biographer, Angela Levin, the princess was “especially close” to her younger brother, Charles.

She was “thrilled” when he got married for the first time in 1989.

Prince Harry even served as a pageboy for the wedding.

The Duke is expected to mark a milestone for his late mother this year.

He and Prince William’s unveiling of a statue to mark what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday was pushed back from 2020 to this July.

However, there are concerns that Harry may not be able to attend due to coronavirus travel restrictions and the birth of his new child.
