Prince Harry heartbreak: Prince broke down twice following Princess Diana’s tragic death

Harry, Duke of Sussex, took his time to grieve Princess Diana’s death. He spoke about what he said to his mother just before she passed away. In the documentary, Our Mother Diana: Her Life and Legacy, Prince Harry said: “If I’d known that that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother the things that I would – the things I would have said to her.”

He said he broke down twice while grieving his mother’s death at her grave in Althrop in 1997, and since then “maybe once”.

He added: “So there’s, you know, there’s a lot of — there’s a lot of grief that still needs to be let out.

“There’s not a day that William and I don’t wish that she was still around, and we wonder what kind of a mother she would be now, and what kind of a public role she would have, and what a difference she would be making.”

Before it was released, Prince William spoke about the documentary.

He said: “This is a tribute from her sons to her.”

He added: “It’s one thing doing a documentary like this and it’s another thing standing in front of all of you guys and explaining about something very personal to you.

“Nevertheless, I think it’s very important that I’m here to do that.”

Prince Harry’s brother, Prince William, has spoken about how fatherhood brought back painful emotions of their late mother.

During a BBC documentary on mental health, Prince William said feelings from a “traumatic” event can resurface when becoming a parent.

He said he has found things “overwhelming” at times.

He added: “Having children is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is.

“And I agree with you, I think when you’ve been through something traumatic in life – and that is like you say your dad not being around, my mother dying when I was younger – your emotions come back in leaps and bounds because it’s a very different phase of life.

Prince William explained that emotions can “come out of the blue” which you may not expect.

He added: “It’s one of the most amazing moments of life but it’s also one of the scariest.”

The royal brothers will have marked the 23rd anniversary of their mother’s death on Monday.
