Prince Harry humiliated as his memoir Spare emerges as ‘most discarded’ book

Prince Harry released his controversial memoir Spare just six months ago but people are already ditching the book, as holiday hotspots are overflowing with abandoned copies.

The book was an instant bestseller, surging to the top of Amazon’s book list after more than 1.4 million copies were sold on its first day, but interest in it doesn’t appear to have lasted.

Hotels and resorts across Spain, Turkey and Green have been inundated with copies of the memoir, as holidaymakers have been spotted leaving the book poolside, shelving it in receptions and rooms or even tossing it into beachside bins.

Holiday specialists On the Beach have so many they are at a loss with what to do with them, with local bookstores and libraries refusing to take them.

Its chief customer officer has spoken of her frustration that they have been left to deal with so many copies of the book.

Zoe Harris said: “We’ve never witnessed anything quite like it. Lost property offices in our most popular resorts are brimming with copies of ‘Spare’, and we had a couple of Prince Harry’s books sent to us from a hotel that some of our customers had holidayed to.

“We thought it was quite funny at first, but over the past few months, several other hotels have been sending the books back, now we have bookcases full of them!

“I’m asking hotels to please stop sending them over, otherwise we’ll never get rid of them all.

“Maybe we should all take a leaf out of Harry’s book and spare ourselves the bother in the first place!”

On the Beach says they are planning to give away the copies on its social media pages.

It’s not the first time Harry’s book has been subject to ridicule, as author Bruno Vincent wrote a spoof version titled: Spare US! A Harrody.

The short book, which features a picture of a gagged Prince Harry on the cover, pokes fun at the Duke of Sussex throughout with hilarious anecdotes and jibes at the numerous claims made in his best-selling memoir.

Harry’s frost-bitten penis is turned into a taunt about being an “oversensitive d**k”, while his drug and alcohol use and relationship with the press are frequently mocked.
