Andrew Morton’s latest edition of his book ‘Meghan: A Hollywood Princess’ offers a fresh insight into the Sussexes’ decision to step down from the Royal Family, claiming that Prince Harry was the instigator for their departure. In a discussion about these allegations, a royal expert has claimed that a “more fundamental” problem existed between Prince Harry and Prince William, and despite Meghan Markle being “the catalyst” of the departure, the Duke of Sussex had wanted to leave the Royal Family for years.

Speaking of Andrew Morton’s claims, royal expert Rebecca English said: “Actually, I think there is some merit in this claim.

“I was thinking about this earlier today, back in 2018 I wrote a piece when word started to leak out that the Fab Four weren’t quite as fab as we thought, saying actually it was a bit of a lazy, sexist trope to blame it on Meghan and some kind of row between Meghan and Kate.

“The issue was far more fundamental, and it was one between the brothers.

“I followed that up with a piece saying about how Harry had said to me and others over the years, how much he’d love to jack in royal duties and go off to Africa and work as a wildlife ranger.

“I think when you put those two together, the picture is actually very clear.

“Meghan was the catalyst, but none of this would have happened unless if Harry wanted it to.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping down from their roles as senior working royals and would be re-locating to North America.

Whilst it was initially reported that the couple’s desire for private life had fuelled their decision to leave, the Sussexes confirmed a rift with Buckingham Palace during their explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The couple accused the Palace of ignoring their mental health, refusing to correct damaging tabloid articles, and claimed that a senior member of the Royal Family had made a racist remark about their unborn son.

During the interview, Prince Harry spoke about his relationship with Prince William, characterising it as “space” and saying they were “on different paths”.

Rumours of a rift between the two had begun to circulate in 2018 after the Sussexes decided to move away from Kensington Palace and established their own Royal Foundation.

In extracts released to the Daily Mirror, royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in the latest edition of his book: “The Duchess of Cambridge’s coolness towards Meghan, and William’s alleged bullying contributed to a devastating ‘Cain and Abel’ fallout between the brothers.

“Harry was the ‘prime mover’ in souring relations between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, but it was Meghan who ‘took the hit.'”

Prince William’s “alleged bullying” was first reported by The Times in January 2020, causing a rare joint statement to be released from Kensington Palace to deny the claims.

The statement said: “Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge. For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.”

Despite reuniting publicly for the funeral of Prince Philip and the unveiling of a new statue of Princess Diana, relations between the brothers are reportedly still tense.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has not seen any of her royal in-laws since the couple conducted their final official engagement in March 2020.

Prince Harry and Meghan currently reside in Montecito, California, with their two young children, Archie Harrison, and Lilibet Diana.
