The Queen removed the honorary positions earlier this year, along with Harry and Meghan’s patronages, after they announced they will not be returning to royal service. However according to the report in The Times both Prince William and Prince Charles will wear military uniform for the event.

Prince Philip’s funeral will take place next Saturday at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel.

Due to coronavirus regulations, there will only be 30 mourners in attendance who will all be wearing protective face masks.

The service will be televised with a national minute’s silence held across the UK at 3pm.

Harry will return from California to attend, his first royal engagement since last month’s incendiary interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However the Duchess of Sussex, who is heavily pregnant, won’t be travelling following medical advice.

The Duke is expected to arrive back in Britain within the next 24 hours.

Speaking to The Sun a royal insider said he’d urged William and Harry to “put to rest their differences, and not only remember their bond but also be mindful of their duty to the Queen and country”.

Royal biographer Tom Bower urged Harry to show humility when he returns to avoid being “permanently divorced” from the Royal Family.

Writing in The Sun he said: “Now, Harry faces a moment of reckoning.

“The negotiations for his return to Britain for the funeral are certain to be fraught.

“The tension will not be helped by the small number of mourners allowed at the funeral — just 30 because of Covid restrictions.

“Much will depend on whether Charles and William are willing to seek reconciliation.

During the extraordinary interview with Ms Winfrey Meghan Markle revealed she had suffered from loneliness, and experienced suicidal thoughts, since marrying into the Royal Family in 2018.

She also alleged there were “concerns and conversations” within the family before Archie was born about “how dark his skin might be”.

Harry confirmed the discussion had taken place adding: “That conversation, I am never going to share.

“At the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

Both Harry and Meghan have refused to name the royal they allege made the comments.

However Ms Winfrey revealed the couple told her it wasn’t either the Queen or Duke of Edinburgh.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of the Queen expressing regret for Meghan’s difficulties but adding “some recollections may vary” about the events described.

Harry and Meghan caused a global sensation by stepping down as senior royals in March 2020.

The couple currently live in a £11.2 million mansion in Santa Barbara, just north of Los Angeles.
