Prince Harry may have created an “opening” for himself to start “repairing bridges”, according to a royal author. The Duke of Sussex’s time in the UK has sparked hopes that he and Prince William’s relationship could be on the mend. Us Weekly’s Royally Us podcast spoke to Royal Holloway Marketing and Consumer Research Professor, Pauline Maclaran, about what had been reported.

She told listeners: “One of the well-known royal biographers has said just in the last couple of days that he has heard that Harry does regret a little bit the things that he said.

“He didn’t realise that they would have so much effect and he misses England.

“He said to his friends that he would like to repair bridges a little bit.

“We never know just how accurate these speculations are.”

Professor Maclaran continued: “But it does seem from what he said at the Diana Awards that this may be more of an opening from him.

“More of him trying to build bridges.”

The Duke had given a virtual address at the annual Diana Award ceremony on the eve of his mother’s statue unveiling.

During it he mentioned his brother twice, leading some commentators to believe it was something of an “olive branch”.

Harry had said: “Later this week, my brother and I are recognising what would have been our mum’s 60th birthday, and she would be so proud of you all for living an authentic life with purpose and with compassion for others.

“Our mum believed that young people have the power to change the world. She believed in your strength because she saw it day in and day out, and in the faces of young people exactly like you, she witnessed a boundless enthusiasm and passion. And I too see those same values shine through.

“As it has done for 21 years now, The Diana Award carries her legacy forward by putting young people at the centre of our future. And this has never been more important.”

Harry and William’s joint unveiling of the statue was the second time they had been seen in public together since the Sussexes left in 2020.

The first had been for Prince Philip’s funeral in April.

The brothers walked in their grandfather’s coffin procession and were seen chatting to each other after the ceremony.

For this event, they arrived together, talked and even issued a joint statement about the memorial.

The statue has been instated in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Gardens, known to be one of Diana’s favourite places.
