Prince Harry’s first girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, left the Duke of Sussex “disappointed” as she realised she did not want to be part of the Royal Family. Speaking to Channel 5 documentary Harry and Meghan: 3 Troubled Years, royal expert Katie Nicholl said Ms Davy knew royal life “wasn’t for her”. Viscountess Hinchingbrooke Julie Montagu said any wife of Harry’s would have had to “give up so much”.
Narrator Jennifer Saayeng said: “Pressure had been building on Prince Harry’s love life after two long term relationships came to an end.”
Ms Nicholl added: “The first love Chelsy Davy who he fell head over heels in love with.
“She had to look into the goldfish bowl of royalty and realise absolutely this wasn’t the life for her.”
Royal expert Richard Kay said: “Harry was disappointed.
“His second relationship with Cressida Bonas, and she too didn’t like the idea of media intrusion.”
Ms Montagu noted: “When you marry into the Royal Family, you have to give up so much individually as a person or at least that is what is expected of you.”
Harry also had a serious relationship with Cressida Bonas before marrying Meghan Markle.
Ms Montagu questioned whether their reasons for not wanting to be tied to the royal are the same as Harry and Meghan’s for leaving in March last year.

Ms Montagu said: “We know that Meghan and Harry’s relationship was somewhat of a whirlwind relationship.
“But if you look back at Harry’s prior relationships, neither of those girls wanted to commit and now you’re wondering is that the exact same reason that Harry and Meghan have now left?
“Because of these exact reasons these two prior girlfriends did not want to marry into the Royal Family.”
In 2016, Ms Davy told the Times how she was chased by the paparazzi during her seven-year relationship with Harry.
