Harry and Meghan have become one of the world’s most famous couples over the last few years. Their 2018 wedding was hailed as a sign that the Royal Family was moving with the times by introducing a divorced, biracial American actress into the fold. Their dramatic decision to then leave the Firm earlier this year has split royal watchers, with many seeing it as a huge snub to the Palace machine — while others perceive it as the Royal Family’s loss.

Yet, there was a time when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship was under wraps.

Prince Harry said during their 2017 engagement interview that having some time together was “crucial” to him, to “make sure we had a chance to get to know each other” before making their relationship public.

It was therefore a big deal when he invited her to the Invictus Games, the international sporting event for injured veterans which Harry founded.

During Meghan’s first official appearance as the royal’s partner in 2017, royal correspondent Hannah Furness noted it was a “landmark” occasion as she was clearly trying to show her support for Harry’s greatest achievement of his working life.

Yet, many royal fans were unaware that Harry had returned the favour.

Writing in The Telegraph, Ms Furness explained: “In a fitting exchange, Prince Harry is reported to have made a low-key visit to meet cast and crew last week, showing his support for his girlfriend’s career.”

His visit was leaked to the Canadian magazine, Hello!, although Kensington Palace did not remark on the claims.

Meghan’s career prior to becoming a royal enabled her to become a self-made millionaire and a growing name within the acting industry.

She spent seven years as one of the main characters for the US legal series, Suits, which was filmed in Toronto — and is also where the Invictus Games were held in 2017.

Ms Furness noted that she was discreet at the event, allowing the spotlight to focus on Harry.

However, once sat in the audience next to the US First Lady Melania Trump, the royal was “making do with sneaking glances at Ms Markle from afar”.

Meghan was watched over by his protection officers and disappeared before the end of the evening so they could leave the arena discreetly.

Despite her low-key attempts, Meghan’s appearance brought more global attention to the Games as royal watchers were keen to see the pair together.

Meghan had already confirmed her relationship with Harry shortly before, during a heartfelt interview with Vanity Fair, where she said the couple were in love.

Fans of Suits also believe the show’s writers have since incorporated some subtle nods towards Harry within the script.

In the ninth season which aired last year, Meghan’s character Rachel was mentioned when her TV husband, played by Patrick J Adams, said she was doing really well.

In the show, he said: “If I told you how good, you probably wouldn’t believe me.”

Then in the 2019 season finale, one character comments on his own wedding outfit and says he was wearing a morning suit — a particularly formal outfit which is often donned by royals such as Harry.

Another character, Harvey, mocks his friend and says: “Louis, you’re not the prince of England.”

These two nods towards the Sussexes could have indicated how well Harry got along with the cast and crew when he visited the set in 2017.

Meghan had to leave the show in order to become a full-time working royal, but is thought to still be close with several of her castmates from the series.
