The youngest of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s children, Prince Louis’s name is often associated with the French monarchy, with the last King of France Louis XVI ruling from 1774 until 1792. However, Prince Louis’s name holds a special significance to the family and has many connections with his paternal grandfather and great-grandfather.
Prince Charles’s great uncle and mentor, to which he was very close, was called Lord Louis Mountbatten.
Lord Louis Mountbatten was the uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, while the name is also a nod to the Duke’s maternal grandfather, Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg.
Prince George’s middle name is also Louis, just like his father, Prince William.
The name, which originates in French and German, has a meaning of “renowned warrior”.
However, Prince Louis’s middle name, Charles, is a clear and direct nod to his paternal grandfather, the Prince of Wales.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge extended the nod to Prince Charles by choosing Arthur as another middle name for the young Prince Louis.
Not only is Prince Charles’s middle name Arthur, but it was also the middle name of Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI.
Kensington Palace announced the baby’s name four days after Prince Louis was born.
In a statement, the Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.
“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
Prince Charles is famously very fond of his grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and baby Archie.
The future King has hinted a number of times at occasions where Prince William’s youngsters have caused mischief.

Prince Louis snub: Why George and Charlotte to get title but not Louis [REPORT]
During a visit to Kew Gardens in 2018, the Prince of Wales revealed George and Charlotte love to wreak havoc in his garden.
As he was presented with an oriental beech sapling for his beech tree collection, the Prince joked: “I mustn’t let my grandchildren get hold of this!”
Prince Charles also previously said keeping up with his grandchildren “wears him out”.
During a visit to the village of Poundbury in Dorset, Prince Charles chatted to one mother, to which he said: “My grandchildren wear me out, I don’t know how you do it!”
He also joked about welcoming another grandchild when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced her pregnancy.
Speaking on behalf of himself and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Charles said: “We are both so pleased at the news.
“It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”
The Duchess of Cornwall even gave an insight into her husband as a grandfather, saying: “He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know, making funny noises and laughing.”
