Royal commentators Eve Pollard and Angela Levin discussed Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship as children during a Channel 5 royal documentary. Ms Levin stated that the Duke of Cambridge was “cross” at his younger brother’s freedom while Prince Harry was annoyed by the privileges his older brother received as a direct heir to the throne.

Ms Pollard said: “You saw them always together and often together with their mum.

“They were obviously firm friends but like all siblings probably had their moments when they were firm enemies.”

Ms Levin stated: “Brothers fight, don’t they? All the time.

“I think William might have been cross that Harry was freer than him and he could do a bit more of what he liked.

“Harry was cross the William got privileges.”

Robert Lacey, a royal commentator, previously stated Prince Harry fell into the “trap” of being a spare member of the Royal Family.

The royal historian told the Royally Obsessed that the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge started life as co-stars but as the brothers got older their paths diverged and the Duke of Sussex began to resent his role as spare in the monarchy.

Mr Lacey said: “Harry fell into the same trap as the spares before him.

“There is in Britain the tradition of the heir and the spare.

“To start with in life they are co-stars, both of them idolised by the nation and the world.

“As early as I say in their childhoods, they became aware of it.”

He added: “Prince William derived a lot of strength from the idea that he would be king, and have great responsibility.

“That kept him going, while Harry went the other way from around the age of four.

“Once Harry was misbehaving in the back of a car and his nanny told him to shape up.

“Harry responded by saying he didn’t need to shape up because he would not be king.

“By their teens, Harry is coming to resent this typecasting.”
