The Duke of Cambridge beat top Hollywood actors, sportsmen and even Russian President Vladimir Putin for the new accolade. The study was carried out by cosmetic surgery specialists Longevita, which discovered the prince was described as “sexy” a staggering 17.6 million times online in blogs and pages found in Google searches. A spokesman said: “There are quite a few bald public figures we can feast our eyes on.”

William came in the top spot, but was followed by boxing legend Mike Tyson, 54, who came second with 8.8million “sexy” searches.

Fast & Furious actor Jason Statham was in third place, with 7.4million results.

And Russian President Vladimir Putin just missed out on a spot in the top ten, with 2.2m results.

Star Trek icon Patrick Stewart also got 1.1m “sexy” mentions online.

Royal fans took to Twitter to share their delight at the news.

One wrote: “Prince William being named sexiest bald man because analytics showed millions were saying he was sexy online..

“That may be my fault.”

Another added: “You can’t tell me any differently.”

A third person said: “Congratulations.”

However, some people were outraged William beat Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci in the poll, even though he did not make the top 10.

One person wrote: “Someone explain to me how Prince William is the hottest bald man alive when Shemar Moore and Stanley Tucci exist?”

Someone else said: “Look, regardless of your opinion of the royal family, I think we can ALL agree that this is Stanley Tucci erasure and it shall not stand.”

And a third person simply said in response to William’s honour: “Not when Stanly Tucci exists.”

It comes as Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appointed two NHS spin doctors to oversee their communications.

Simon Enright, currently director of communications at the NHS and formerly the deputy editor of BBC Newsnight, will be joining Clarence House to take charge of Charles’ public relations.

Meanwhile, Victoria O’Byrne, director of communications for NHS Test and Trace, will be joining Kensington Palace to work with William and Kate.

Both are expected to start in May.

They are tasked with repairing the reputation of the royal family after the shocking allegations made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this month.

Harry accused his father of failing to return his calls and claimed William was “trapped” inside the monarchy.

Another unnamed family member was accused of racism.

Mr Enright, 51, has played a pivotal role in managing the communications of the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

He spent 16 years working for the BBC before joining the NHS in 2013.

Mr Enright will take over from Julian Payne, who announced in January he was stepping down as Charles’ director of communications.

Ms O’Byrne has been at the NHS for seven months, according to her LinkedIn page, which lists “crisis communications” among her specialities.
