Prince William praises Earthshot winners for climate change tech

At COP26, the Duke of Cambridge introduced the first winners and finalists of his £50million Earthshot Prize to politicians and business leaders who can help put their ideas into practice.

One was Vinisha Umashankar, 15, from India, who has designed a solar-powered ironing cart that will cut carbon pollution by replacing the charcoal-powered street irons that press clothes for millions of Indians each day.

She was given a standing ovation by an audience that included Boris Johnson, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden after her fiery speech.

“Me and my generation will live to see the consequences of your actions today,” she said. “You are deciding whether or not we’ve a chance to live in a habitable world.”

In an apparent jab at private jets, William said before leaving: “I must dash, I’ve got a train.”
