Prince William’s cryptic comment about Harry and Meghan exposed: ‘He’s not silly!’

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in Bradford this week for their first royal engagement of the year. One of William and Kate’s visits was to the Khidmat Centre, a centre for vulnerable children and adults in the West Yorkshire city, where Prince William gave a short speech. However, his comments were very pertinent to the Royal Family’s current turmoil over Prince Harry and Markle’s exit, too.

Podcast Pod Save the Queen is hosted by Ann Gripper and features Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers.

In this week’s latest episode Mr Myers commented on William’s speech and how the Duke had “one eye on” the current royal crisis with his words.

Mr Myers said: “So he was at a children’s centre, speaking about the relationship between the two communities – there are big Muslim and Christian communities living side-by-side in Bradford.

“I think it was kind of, put to him about the relationship aspect of living in a multi-ethnic community.

“Paraphrasing, he was saying that we all need to sometimes take a step back, and realise what the issues are.

“He was talking about cohesion within the family and how that is really, really important.

“You know, he’s not silly, William.

“He was definitely making those comments with one eye on the press pack who were listening, and on the absolutely tumultuous week the family have been under.”

The  Duke of Cambridge said on Wednesday: ”It’s sometimes trying to get people to understand that’s it’s OK to have these challenges.

“We just need to deal with them and we need to move forward rather than just be stuck in paralysis.”

Mr Myers went on to say that William had prepared for awkward questions about his brother and sister-in-law.

He said: “They know the score.

“It was put to me that William had an answer locked and loaded, ready if someone in the crowd had ambushed him with a question.

“They were well-prepared – but he didn’t have to use it.”

Speaking in last week’s episode, Mr Myers also commented on the family relationship breakdown that is at the heart of the royal crisis.

Mr Myers said: “It’s not only caused deep concern, but absolute sadness, I think, from the senior members of the Royal Family.

“And, rage, really.

“This has come at a time when they thought that they had really tried to help Harry and Meghan, bring them back into the fold.

“There was concern about how they did they ITV documentary, how they looked very fragile.

“And it seems as though they’ve gone away and they have decided against coming into the fold, and are going it alone.

“This, for me, is a really sad state of affairs and I do worry about who they are taking advice from.

“It shows you, at the core, the huge breakdown of relationships here, which is very, very sad.

“What this boils down to, is a breakdown of a family relationship.”
