Tensions within the Royal Family remain as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare for Lilibet’s christening. In line with their wishes for more privacy, it is said the Sussexes are contemplating whether to release pictures of their daughter from the ceremony. This is despite the child being eighth in line to the throne and taking her name from her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname.

The fallout between the couple and the rest of the Royal Family has rumbled on for years.

It appears the hostility may have started from the get go, as Princess Anne was said to be sceptical of how Meghan would fit in with The Firm.

In April, Lady Colin Campbell claimed Anne was not happy with Harry’s decision to marry Meghan.

She said: “Princess Anne was the champion in terms of ‘don’t marry that girl, she is unsuitable’.

“‘She is wrong for us, she is wrong for the country, she is wrong for the job’. Well, it’s turned out to be true.”

Lady C also alleged that Anne – the Queen’s second child and only daughter – thought Meghan was “flagrantly attention-seeking”.

She added: “It just absolutely turned Princess Anne off because she couldn’t stand Meghan’s constant ‘uh, uh, me, me me, me’.”

The Mirror reported at the time that Lady C made the claims in a 38-minute long video on YouTube.

In April, it was also reported that Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, didn’t acknowledge Harry while at Prince Philip’s funeral.

While he was seen chatting to brother Prince William and Kate, an insider has said things have been “frosty” with other family members since he returned to Windsor to self-isolate.

Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie reportedly didn’t speak or even acknowledge him at all, claimed the Mail on Sunday.

A source told the newspaper: “Ironically the only one who has expressed any sympathy towards him is Prince Andrew. He knows from Sarah Ferguson – and now first-hand – how it feels to be the outsider, which Harry very much is.

“As far as the others are concerned, there is a deep sense of protection towards the Queen and resentment towards Harry. There is little sympathy for him after what he and Meghan said on Oprah.

“They are still very upset. They are putting on a united front for the Queen. They all think he has behaved appallingly.”

The interview the Sussexes did with Oprah Winfrey aired earlier this year, with Meghan and Harry making damaging claims.

Meghan alleged there was concern from a member of the Royal Family about her baby Archie’s skin tone before he was born.

Harry backed up the claim, but both refused to disclose any more detail about the conversation.

Meghan also said she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” and alleged that the “institution” said she could not get help.

Following the interview, a short statement issued on behalf of the Queen read saying: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
