The Oscar’s Book Prize is a yearly award for what are judged to be the best books for under-fives. The winner is awarded a £5,000 prize, and six books in total were shortlisted.

But as well as the prize money, the winning title would be announced and read out by Princess Beatrice.

This year, the winner was a book called Tad by author Benji Davies, which is about a small tadpole in a big pond and looks at the importance of taking one’s time to grow up, the Evening Standard reported.

As a result, Princess Beatrice appeared in a video to announce Tad as the winner, as well as read out parts of the book.

Beatrice, who is the royal patron of the Oscar’s Book Prize, could be seen in front of a cosy fireplace as she announced the winner.

Presumably the video was shot at the country home owned by Nikki Shale, the mother of her fiancé.

The princess is currently self-isolating there with fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi according to Hello! Magazine, which claims it’s worth £1.5 million.

In the video, Princess Beatrice wore a dress printed with birds, while her stunning engagement ring was also on show.

In February, Insider reported that the ring, reportedly worth an estimated £60,000, was designed by designer Shaun Leane in collaboration with the princess’ fiancé.

Tobia Kormind, managing director at, told Insider that the ring is a more modern approach for the couple.

Kormind said that “Edoardo has gone for a more modern engagement ring with a diamond, like Harry for Meghan,” adding that this is unlike the coloured gemstones given to Kate and Eugenie.

The wedding between Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi was due to take place on May 29 this year, though this has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hello! reports that the wedding was due to be held in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace in London, and that the Queen would host their Buckingham Palace reception.

It’s understood that the couple have yet to release details on what the next date for their wedding will be.

According to the Evening Standard, Princess Beatrice said of reading out the Oscar’s Book Prize this year: “I felt so l felt so lucky to be able to read each of the shortlisted books for Oscar’s Book Prize,” and called the quality of entries “unprecedented”.

In other royal news, the Queen has given UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson permission to exercise on the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

A Whitehall source has confirmed that Johnson had been exercising on the palace grounds after he was photographed getting out of a Range Rover wearing sports gear near to the palace grounds.

The Sun added that the Prime Minister is not able to exercise in St James’s Park – which is reportedly his usual spot – due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, a drop in tourism numbers amid the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the royal family are facing a fall in finances.

The Independent reports that the Royal Collection Trust has been forced to close a number of royal attractions such as Windsor Castle amid the pandemic.

And the Sun reports that Earl Peel wrote in a memo to royal household staff there would be “very difficult times ahead”.
